Something 4 The Weekend # 179

This is one of those weekends where the something is random, when I literally close my eyes and click on my enormous MP3 folder.
Let's Wrestle is from England and who gives a shit - things are tough all over, and I think we all understand brash.
Meawhile, the bass is tasty, and that's crucial on a Friday night.
Ba ba ba ba ba ba baaaaaa...

Thank You For The Sideways Roses

I don't mean to belittle dEUS by comparing them to Radiohead or Beck. I really like dEUS, and think they have an artistic integrity that is difficult to match. So many ideas, most of them good ideas, packed into every song.

dEUS is one of those bands I believe could have been huge in a different world. Like Radiohead, but instead life didn't quite shake out in their direction. Instead, they're the biggest band ever outta Antwerp, with an extremely loyal fanbase in Europe and the respect of most critics. It'll do.

Sideways Suds & Soda Maneuver

This was dEUS' first hit single. It might also be their biggest.

1994.

There, but for the grace of God, goes Radiohead.

dEUS: In A Bar, Under The Sea: "Fell Off The Floor, Man" [mp3]

If Beck were a Belgian stoner, he'd probably make an album like this.

Flip-flopping it - If Tom Barman (leader of dEUS) were a Hollywood Scientologist, this might be Odelay.

All I know is the Post-Grunge 90's was a strange time for modern rock, and a whole bunch of white guys wanted to be funky.

I Always Thought Rollins Would Make A Great Cop

I once worked with a guy who suckerpunched Henry Rollins in the gut at an after party in Oshkosh and lived to tell the tale. The tale mostly involved running.

There's Always Time For Jello

So there was this video, halfway down the page in the Suggestions column on the right side at YouTube. East Bay Ray continues to rule.

Everyone looks so young and shiny and smooth...Billy Zoom has yet to work his hair into a blonde pompadour.

Such a long time ago, like yesterday.

I've started drinking through straws...

I believe these things to be true, which is why Hot Poop has no momentum, nevermind simple traction. Of course the lack of "blog focus" doesn't help. It's been something like 5 years since Hot Poop started rolling, and I'm still not sure what it's supposed to be. Surely it ought to be more than fortune cookie fortunes and a weekly mp3.

On the other hand, I have been working on the Warlord Scott screenplay. That's something.

Something 4 The Weekend # 177

X: More Fun In The New World: "I Must Not Think Bad Thoughts" [mp3]

X were my generation's X. John's and Exene's voices spilling over each other like whiskey and cough syrup, mixing, melting hearts, breaking hearts. Billy Zoom on the side with that creepy fucking grin of his, guitar as the icebreaker, melting young, impressionable minds...I threw a bowling shirt at him during a show at the Eagles Club. I was tall and gawky and hairless like any other teenaged groupie, such was Billy's power. Anyways, that was my closest brush with X, a truly tough and remarkable band, my generation's X. Remarkably Emo, I would say...At least from about 20 feet away.
