EVERYTHINGATHON! December 2007

Tis the first of a new month, December 2007, and that means a new episode of EVERYTHINGATHON! over at my website of the same name...
This month, it's nothing more and nothing less than a solid hour of songs by The Fiery Furnaces, a brother and sister duo from Oak Park Illinois who followed the maps and signs to Brooklyn, where they struck Indie Rock glory and gold...
These single-artist podcasts always leave me feeling conflicted...They're too easy to mix together, though that's an important consideration when my life gets wrapped up in other things...Things as mundane as playing video games, or as important as fixing the hot water heater and playing with the cats, Isaac and Eno...Or working on the Warlord Jeff screenplay, a task spanning seven years now...
I kinda feel like it's taking such an easy way out, that it's almost pointless...Pointless to wrap an hour of songs easily pulled from a folder on my harddrive and quickly wrapped in the EVERYTHINGATHON! opening and closing theme/sequences...
"Ever get the feeling you've been cheated?"
Nonetheless, The Fiery Furnaces are an interesting band, Pop enough to be instantly likeable, but complex enough for repeated listening and closer examination...I feel a deep sense of Americana when I listen to The Fiery Furnaces, a feeling akin to reading Mark Twain, or looking at my grandpa's pictures from the 1930's and '40's in Milwaukee...And yet, they can be the strangest, most psychedelic band at times, quick shots of lysergic bliss woven into their American fabric...The "old, weird America" as Greil Marcus once wrote about the esoteric folk roots of Dylan & The Band during their Basement Tapes sessions...
Anyways, head on over to EVERYTHINGATHON! to stream and/or download "The Fiery Furnaces Of Winter" RIGHT NOW! Because come January 1st, 2008, it's all about Mitch Lovitz and the most requested songs of 2007 at WBST, 109.5 FM...
