Something 4 The Weekend # 130

The new Meryl Streep and Amy Adams film, Julie & Julia, is out in theaters right now, babycakes, and while I have no songs about Julie Powell to offer, I DO have two Tape Jazz Massacre songs that sample Julia Childs quite heavily, so this weekend seems like the perfect weekend to unleash 'em...

For the record, and not that it's much of a suprise, I am one half of the sampling duo that is Tape Jazz Massacre...I am the Big Jimmmmi Cakefingers half, and my job is mostly cutting up words and mixing drinks...Ornette Yukahiro is the other half, and he mostly does the music and woolie-rolling...His software, my record collection...

As always, 100%!

Night Of The Living Bacon!

I was trying to think of something clever to write about bacon.

I thought about making fun of the internet's creepy and zombie-like obsession with bacon, but couldn't really come up with anything more astute or interesting than the idea that the vast majority of people on the internet are either too witless or too scared to have an original, non-zombie thought.

"BAAAAAACONNNNNN!!!!!"

Eventually, enough of the "right" internet pundits laud the glories of bacon, and pretty soon everybody is doing the same. You would think that bacon was some brilliant new discovery, the way we gush about it, but bacon has always been fucking delicious. Long before the internet and your low-carb diet, babycakes. I guess if there's a silver lining in all this, at least it can be said that the internet has actually embraced something worthwhile for a change. Unlike zombies or Nathan Fillion.

"FIIIILLLLLIONNNNNN!!!!!!"

I enjoy bacon. Not as much as butterscotch pudding, but my version of the BLT (butterscotch, lettuce and tomato) admittedly tastes like shit, so I won't bother going there...

I enjoy bacon, but cannot bring myself to creepily adore it. What I can do is create a BACON tag, and hope to drive some traffic towards this useless blog.

Now, would somebody please do everybody a favor, and write some fanfic regarding bacon and a zombified Nathan Fillion? Or a regular Nathan Fillion eating Zombie Bacon™?

That way, most of us win.

Something 4 The Weekend # 99

Sleater-Kinney: The Hot Rock: "Burn Don't Freeze" [mp3]

99 divided by 3 equals 33...Add a third to that and it's a real longplayer, babycakes!

So of course it's a good time to catch up with three wild cats who wailed and hailed from Olympia, Washington, with three, count 'em, three songs from their 1999 album, The Hot Rock, natch...Plus, the first time I streamed Sleater-Kinney here at HOT POOP, way back in the spring of 2006, I served up three other nuggets from three other S-K albums...

Not The Hot Rock album...

Sleater-Kinney: The Hot Rock: "Banned From The End Of The World" [mp3]

It was S4TW #6 back then, a time when I still wasn't uploading album cover art, and the songs streamed from ye olde ButterScotch Threshold...Ah, such innocent days...

And here we are now, at the end of a year that kinda feels like the end of the world really might be right around the corner...But we don't really wanna consider the number crunchers and broke-assed brokers who are dragging all of us over the edge, do we?

No. So this is # 99 in a high performance series, and next week it will be the 100th something else 4 the weekend, and it will be 1-2-2009 and I suppose there's a whole lotta fantastic equations in all of this, but quite frankly, I'm still drunk on ham, and in no mood for more math.

Neither are you, I'm gonna guess, cuz guessing is the arch-enemy of arithmetic, and I never hung around with mathletes. I was on the debate team, which was really all about word problems, you know?

Sleater-Kinney: The Hot Rock: "Get Up" [mp3]

I dunno what a song about death/near death and a triumphant afterlife/re-awakening has to do with any of this, but it satisfies the pattern I got going here with Sleater-Kinney and the magical number 3, so I'm gonna go reheat some mashed potatoes, make a kong gravy, and get down to some Ted Nugent because I listened to Sleater-Kinney on my entire roundtrip to/from Mount Horeb yesterday, a trip I cannot and will not speak of, ever.

Strictly for commercial reasons.

I'm still drunk on ham (And troll mustard [don't ask]). Good morning.

Too Soon?

Back in the days (2001-2006) when Tim Russert was still alive, and I was uploading a couple thousand MUCKO! to The ButterScotch Threshold, there was the running "gag" of Russert MUCKO! in which he always and only said "My head is full of starchy, potato goodness." It was a juvenile riff on the Irish and their massive, lumpy heads and their love and reliance on potatoes.
(I never claimed to be very funny or clever.)
I genuinely liked Tim Russert, and on those Sundays when I am up at 9 am, I always watch Meet The Press...I liked his questioning style, which was entertaining, even if he never actually went in for the kill, you know? I think if he wanted to, he could have nailed plenty of Washington's most powerful, but I suppose that's simply not the way it works on television...Those kinds of questions and answers and accusations and convictions are best left to high-minded books by Beltway insiders that nobody actually reads...
And even though I'm elitist enough to admit I watch Meet The Press, I'm not quite sophisticated enough to avoid the potato head jokes. The utterly juvenile mind that actually thinks the Russert=Russet thing is actually funny...The guy was Irish-American, after all, and I have no shame, apparently...
Anyways, Tim Russert passed away six months ago, and the formula Tragedy + Time = Comedy is really nothing but variables, so I'm not sure if this stupid MUCKO! is too soon, or not. I leave that to you to decide.
So, for the record, and in the interest of fairness:
I smell like Gouda cheese... You're reading Hot Poop!

The Golden Age Of Sideways Maneuver

This is a music video I made back around 2003 or so. I had found the ping pong footage somewhere on the internet, and the footage is only 24 seconds long at it's normal speed, making the athleticism within all the more impressive, perhaps...But after downloading the clip, I opened it up in Vegas and slowed it down to really get the full-flavor of the amazing table tennis action...Simple curiosity...

It was mesmerizing at such a slow speed, and I thought it would be a really cool music video...

But what song?

To be honest, I wasn't struck by sudden inspiration. "The Golden Age" by Beck didn't suddenly bounce through my noodle...Like at least half of all creative endeavors, there was a bit of trial and error involved in the process...But when I matched the footage up with this song, it clicked instantly...

I think it's brilliant, if I do say so myself...

Wisconsin! The State For Sex!

An artist named Chuck Jones wrote and recorded this fine song, which he proposes should become Wisconsin's new state song...I heartily agree...

I guess I should point out that I am the one responsible for the artwork you see above...It is lovingly called "The Wiskull", and was the design for a ceramic mug warmer that I sold at Cafe Press back in the good old ButterScotch Threshold days...One of the six ever made is sitting underneath my cup of coffee right now...If you happen to own one of the other five, hang onto it - it's Blue Book value is currently hovering around $4.27.

Status Report

Well, babycakes - I've got my new PC, and it's a shiny beast that's quicker than hell, and for the most part I'm excited and satisfied...It hasn't been a flawless affair, however - I've got issues with my Frontpage software, and the fact that it apparently can't be loaded into a machine that isn't running MS Office. I'm running MS Works.

Oddly enough, while I wasn't able to install Frontpage 2003, I WAS able to install Frontpage 2000, which is a noticeably more primitive version of a software program that is already as Last Century as possible.

The question now is - what happens when I upload pages created in FP2000 to a site that is currently sitting on the server that was created with FP2003. Considering this is MS software, I'm assuming serious conflicts and issues will arise.

But first, I gotta be able to connect to my server host via Filezilla, and that ain't happening for whatever reason.

So, in the meantime, here's a semi-recent KIETH THE PERPETUAL TEEN strip that doesn't feature Kieth, but rather, Kieth's cats, Depardeau and Tuffy The Kibble Slayer...Ayup...

Hopefully EVERYTHINGATHON! will be running normally by the end of the week, as well as this HOT POOP blog...Until then...

Hot Thursday Filler

Some of you no doubt remember MUCKO! from ye olde ButterScotch Threshold, and if you do, then you will perhaps remember that the typical carwreck MUCKO! involved namechecking a heavy metal band, which isn't actually funny (though I find it amusing), and might be slightly less unfunny if I namechecked soft rock artists like John Denver or The Carpenters instead. Anyways, for the sake of tradition (and what am I if not sentimental?), here's a "classic" carwreck MUCKO!

And for the sake of full disclosure, I always associate car wrecks with CD or tape decks because a dude I went to high school with (and shall remain nameless), once drove his car up into a driveway, hitting a car parked there, all because he was changing cassettes in his car stereo and wasn't watching the road. As the story goes, he was taking out Def Leppard's High & Dry tape to put in Scorpion's Blackout tape...Anyways, he wasn't seriously hurt, though the auto body repair bills for both cars were rather expensive.

EVERYTHINGATHON!

Thanks to our man in OKC, deject, the new EVERYTHINGATHON! website is up and running!

Ayup.
I could have resurrected Thee ButterScotch Threshold, but decided (because I'm another Decider) to head in a new direction, especially since the EVERYTHINGATHON! podcast was the only regularly updated part of Thee BST for the past year or so...
So, here we are...
I have no idea if I'll stick to the design of the site, and if you have an opinion on any of that, let me know...Keep in mind I use MS Frontpage because I believe in the potency of cheap music, which is just another way of saying you get more mileage from a cheap pair of sneakers, which is just another way of saying "High Performance, Low Art", which has been my personal motto since the summer of 1985, at a truckstop somewhere on the outskirts of St. Augustine, FL...
But anyways...This month's EVERYTHINGATHON! is entitled GROUPIE CONFIDENTIAL, and yes, it's all about HOT GROUPIE ACTION...And because I'm gonna stick to the tradition of posting a new podcast at the beginning of every month, this month's podcast will only be available for two weeks, so get yr streaming done RIGHT NOW!
Again, a thousand thanks to DEJECT, for making this possible...The check will be in the mail by the end of the week...

WEBSITE DOWN!

It was inevitable.

Thee Butterscotch Threshold, the website I launched in March of 2002, is out of commission.

Long story short, a friend of mine (whom I've lost contact with over the past couple of years) at AcidPlanet, hosted Thee BST for free on a server she was running down in Dallas. And while I doubt she'll ever read this post, I've got to give a humongous hug and "thanks" to Monica for doing such and ubelievably generous thing for me, for a solid 5+ years. This morning I clicked to find that Thee BST is redirected to HOST ROCKET, so apparently Monica has finally pulled the plug. Like I said, this was inevitable.

So...The question now becomes, do I find a new host for Thee BST, or do I go ahead with plans to launch everythingathon.com? The thing is - The Everythingathon podcast was the only feature at Thee BST which was still being updated regularly, so it only makes sense right now to go ahead with that plan. I love Thee BST, and had many "fans" of the site, so it's a difficult decision if I end up scrapping it forever...I suppose as long as I own the domain, I could ressurrect it at any time...

Anyways, Thee BST's shutdown has a direct impact on this HOT POOP blog, as the mp3 from the Something 4 The Weekend feature were hosted on that BST server...You'll notice that none of the audio streams here anymore...All apologies...

So, I asked before, and I'll ask again, what do YOU think, all six of you regular HOT POOP readers? Do I ressurrect Thee BST, or should I go in a slightly new and different direction and start EVERYTHINGATHON? Let me know in the comments, and thanks for visiting this blog.

EVERYTHINGATHON! August 2007

Cake is an American band...

Indeed, they are from Sacramento, but really, they're a true American band...

They sing about cars and girls, mostly, but really they sing an awful lot about cars, and it has always made me wonder if the band has always aimed to stockpile a catalog of tunes for future licensing to General Motors and Ford...

Selling out AND cashing in are pretty damn American...

My point is, automobiles are 100%, pure American(a), and any true American band worth it's salt sings more than a song or two about cars, driving, and the road...Bruce Springsteen...Tom Petty...Bob Dylan...REM...Tom Waits...The Hold Steady...

And not only does a true American band need at least a handful of songs about cars and driving and whatnot, but these songs about cars and whatnot gotta sound really good when blasted from a car stereo...

Gotta...and whatnot...

Cake, the band from Sacramento, sound pretty damn good in the deck of a creamy yellow 1977 Ford LTD Landau Edition...

Plus, their implementation of the trumpet into American Rock Music is unparalleled.

Cake.

Cake are reliable as hell. You can count on Cake to release a new album every 2-3 years, and you can bet those 10-12 new songs are gonna sound alot like the Cake you already know, but it's fucking Cake, you know? so it's gonna sound good and solid, and catchy as hell...You know there's gonna be plenty of thick, groovy bass riffs, plenty of solid, dependable mid-tempo boombip, guitars that boogie with a clever simplicity, and plenty of wry lyrics about cars...And girls and whatnot...

So...Right about now, in the dog days of summer, on a long drive through the countryside, windows down, trying to catch whatever cool breeze you can find in this oppressively hot, humid summer of 2007, take a listen to Cake...

Take a listen to this month's EVERYTHINGATHON! It's a solid hour of good ol' American Rock'n'Roll Music...

Plus, I've been busy as hell, so one of these single-artist podcasts without narration or serious mixing can be whipped together in an hour or three...

That's 100% cake, babycakes!

Individual KIETH THE PERPETUAL TEEN strips are barely funny when taken within the context of an entire story arc, and they're almost never funny when considered on their own.

Such is the case with this particular strip, which is taken from a self-contained KTPT story tentatively entitled Sheriff Omar & The Pile Of Dead Disc Jockeys...

Pretty colors.

It's the beginning of another month, and that means a new episode of EVERYTHINGATHON! is available for streaming and downloading at The Butterscotch Threshold. This month features the beloved Mitch Lovitz hosting a morning surf show from Imperial Beach, CA, so naturally, there's plenty of surf music and a bunch of requests from surfer dudes who all kinda sound the same. In any case, it's a solid hour of entertainment, absolutely free...Enjoy!

Tuesday Hot Poop Filler

This is DJ Svelte Teddy, possibly better known to you as President Theodore Roosevelt. He's one of the ridiculously stupid DJ characters I whipped up for a KIETH THE PERPETUAL TEEN "episode" tentatively entitled Sheriff Omar & The Pile Of Dead Disc Jockeys.

Basically, someone is killing all the DJs of ???

You know, I've been drawing KTPT on and off for 22 years, and I still don't know where the comic strip takes place. Hmmmm...

Anyways, a whole bunch of famously imaginary DJs get killed, and of course, Kieth is immediately made the prime suspect. Alot of dumb things are said by all your favorite KTPT characters, several beards are worn as disguises, drugs are consumed - all the usual stuff.

So, yeah, this is DJ Svelte Teddy. Hot Poop filler for this Tuesday in June.
